We are a same sex couple who adopted a Down Syndrome baby boy in August 2009. This year we decided we were ready for baby #2 and being so inspired by your story and the suffering children in other countries we decided to go international.
We were told right off the bat, no way, shape or form would a same sex couple EVER get an international baby. In fact, they said that if we were “just dating” and not an established family then it might be overlooked (true story).
These babies break my heart. I can’t believe these laws and all of the ignorance that will keep a child from a loving home with all the medical attention he or she needs.
We are adopting locally and very excited. Having 2 Down Syndrome sons, for us, is a beautiful journey that my partner and I (and other older children) have embraced fully.
Thank You for giving these children a voice and allowing them to be seen. Without people like you they would remain nameless, faceless and unknown. You are an inspiration, a very good woman. Thank you. Nykki Poole
